Spiritual Routine
What is Spiritual Routine, and how do I set it up?
From version 1.47.0, Spiritual Routine helps you keep up the personal spiritual activities that sit beside your ministry, and gives you a reason to open WitnessWork each day. You check them off on a Routine card on Home, and each one gets its own heat map so you can see how steady you've been. It's free, works on iOS and Android, and is completely optional.
To set it up, tap Set up on the Spiritual Routine card that appears on Home, or open Settings → Spiritual Routine. Choose which activities to include, how you read the Bible, your meeting days, and your family worship evening. A daily reminder is available but stays off unless you turn it on. If you tap Not now on the Home card, it goes away; you can set it up later in Settings.
What you can check off:
Bible reading: once a day. Read today is the default; you can also follow a reading plan (see the question about reading plans).
Personal study: any day you study. By default the card asks for it until you've studied once that week. You can change the goal to a number of times a week, or to chosen days. Every day you study counts, even beyond your goal, once per day.
Midweek meeting prep and Weekend meeting prep: once each week (Monday to Sunday). Each shows on Home from two days before that meeting through the meeting day. If you haven't set your meeting days, both show all week until you check them.
Family worship: once a week, on the evening you choose, or any day if you don't choose one. If you aren't with family, you can call it Personal worship evening instead.
Checking off: tap an item on the Routine card. When everything for today is done, the card shrinks to a single All done today line. Tap the card to open the Spiritual Routine screen, with a heat map for each activity. There you can also check off a day you forgot, back to the start of last week. Tap a checked day again to undo it.
There are no streaks in Spiritual Routine, and missing a day never counts against you. The heat maps simply show the days you checked.
To hide the card, edit your Home screen and remove Spiritual Routine, or turn the whole feature off in Settings → Spiritual Routine. Turning an activity or the feature off keeps everything you checked, and it comes back as it was when you turn it on again.
If an activity doesn't show on Home when you expect it, check its settings in Settings → Spiritual Routine: weekly activities only show on their days, and personal study hides once you've met your goal for the week. How do Bible reading plans work in Spiritual Routine?
From version 1.47.0, Spiritual Routine's Bible reading can be a simple daily check or a reading plan. Plans work the same on iOS and Android.
To choose, open Settings → Spiritual Routine and pick how you read the Bible:
Read today (the default): one check for each day you read, whatever you read.
Bible in a year: all 66 books in order, in 365 daily portions of about three chapters.
Bible in a year, in order of events: the same chapters arranged roughly in the order things happened, for example Job after the early chapters of Genesis and the prophets beside the kings they served under. The order is approximate.
My own plan: choose the book to start with and how many chapters to read a day (1 to 10). The plan goes through to Revelation and then from Genesis back to where you started.
With a plan, the Routine card on Home shows today's portion, like Genesis 1–3, and the plan's progress, like Day 12 of 365. Checking it off marks that portion read and also counts as your Bible reading for the day. If you finish early, you can read the next portion the same day.
Plans never fall behind. They move by portion, not by date: if you're away for a week or a month, the plan simply waits and shows the next portion you haven't read. There's no backlog to catch up on and no finish date that slips.
Switching plans: you can pick another plan at any time. The new one starts at Day 1, and the plan you left keeps its progress, so if you switch back, you continue where you stopped. Choosing Read today keeps your plans' progress too.
Finishing: when you read a plan's last portion, a short celebration plays once. If you have a pet, it also earns 500 coins (see the question about coins). Afterwards you can start the same plan again or choose another.
The reading plans are WitnessWork's own chapter lists. Nothing is downloaded from jw.org, and they don't follow the meeting workbook's weekly Bible reading.
Your plan and the portions you've read sync between your devices and are saved in your backups, like the rest of Spiritual Routine.
How do I set my meeting days?
From version 1.47.0, you set your meeting days in Settings → Spiritual Routine, under Meeting days. Choose the day of your midweek meeting (Monday to Friday) and the day of your weekend meeting (Saturday or Sunday). This works the same on iOS and Android.
Your meeting days are used in two places:
Spiritual Routine: Midweek meeting prep and Weekend meeting prep show on Home's Routine card from two days before each meeting through the meeting day. Without meeting days, both show all week until you check them.
Plans: the schedule assistant still reads the same meeting days and keeps its suggestions lighter on those days. Its settings link to Settings → Spiritual Routine, so you only set them once.
If your congregation changes its meeting schedule, for example during a circuit overseer's visit week, you can still check off your prep any day that week from the Spiritual Routine screen. Meeting days sync between your devices.
Can WitnessWork remind me about my Spiritual Routine?
From version 1.47.0, Spiritual Routine can send one reminder a day on iOS and Android. It's off unless you turn it on.
To turn it on, open Settings → Spiritual Routine, turn on Daily reminder, and choose a time (7:00 PM unless you change it). WitnessWork asks for permission to send notifications if it doesn't have it yet. If notifications are off for WitnessWork in your device's settings, the reminder can't arrive; turn them back on there.
The reminder lists only what's still open for that day, like Bible reading and Midweek meeting prep. On a day when everything is already checked, or nothing is due, no reminder comes. Tapping the reminder opens WitnessWork so you can check things off.
To stop the reminders, turn off Daily reminder in Settings → Spiritual Routine. Turning Spiritual Routine off stops them too.
How does Spiritual Routine earn coins for my pet, and why are coin numbers bigger?
From version 1.47.0, if you have a pet companion, the things you check off in Spiritual Routine also earn it coins to spend in the Shop. You don't need a pet to use Spiritual Routine; without one, nothing about coins shows.
What each activity earns:
Bible reading: 4 coins for each day you check it.
Personal study: 4 coins for each day you check it.
Midweek meeting prep: 5 coins each week.
Weekend meeting prep: 5 coins each week.
Family worship (or personal worship evening): 5 coins each week.
Finishing a reading plan: 500 coins.
A day in the ministry still earns more than any one of these. Spiritual Routine earns coins only; your pet's hearts still follow your ministry. Like the rest of your coins, Spiritual Routine coins count from the day you adopted your pet, and a day you check off later (back to the start of last week) earns the same.
Why the numbers got bigger: in version 1.47.0, every coin amount in the app was multiplied by 10 at the same moment, so the smaller Spiritual Routine amounts could be whole coins. A day out now earns 10 instead of 1, a planned day kept 10 more, and a streak milestone 100. Shop prices went up by the same amount, from 100 to 360 coins. Your balance was multiplied too, so nobody lost anything: what you could buy before, you can still buy.
The Shop also has a new Study tab for a corner of your pet's room, with pieces to buy. That corner starts empty, and you can buy its pieces whether or not you use Spiritual Routine.
If you use WitnessWork on more than one device and one of them hasn't updated to 1.47.0 yet, that device shows coins in the old, smaller numbers and doesn't count what Spiritual Routine earned, so it can show fewer coins, or 0 if you spent them on the updated device. Update that device and it matches again.
When you check something off on the Routine card, what it earned lands on the screen, like +4 Bible reading, and drops into your pet's coins. To turn that animation off, go to Settings → Preferences → Rewards.
Who can see my Spiritual Routine?
From version 1.47.0, what you check off in Spiritual Routine is private to you, on iOS and Android.
It's kept on your device, and in your sync and backups, like the rest of your records, so it's on your other devices and comes back after you restore a backup.
It's never shared with your buddies, never shown on your Buddy Card, and never included in your Service Report.
It has no streaks and no rankings, and it isn't compared with anyone.
WitnessWork's analytics may count how often features are used, such as how many activities were checked on a day, but never what you read, your reading plan's portion, or your notes. You can turn analytics off in Settings.
If you turn Spiritual Routine off, nothing is deleted: your history stays on your devices and returns when you turn it on again.
