How do I earn coins, and what can I buy in the Shop?

From version 1.46.0, your pet's hats and room items are bought in the Shop with gold coins. You earn them by going out in the ministry. The Shop works on iOS and Android, and coins never cost real money.

To open the Shop, tap your pet's card on Home (anywhere except on your pet) to open its details, then tap Shop beside your coins. You can also long-press the card's name and choose Shop…, or tap More in Shop at the end of a tab in the details to open the Shop at the next item there. Your coins show on your pet's card, in its details and at the top of the Shop; tap them in the details or the Shop for a reminder of how they're earned. In the Shop, pick a category (Hat, Wall, Floor, Bed, Shelf, or Light) and tap an item to try it on in the room picture. Its price is on the Buy button. Tap Buy, and your pet wears the hat or the item goes in the room right away, and a message says so. If you don't have enough yet, the button says how many more you need, like Need 3 more. The Shop only sells: something you own says Owned, and you put it on in your pet's details. Items open from the start aren't in the Shop. On an iPad or an unfolded iPhone Duo, the Shop shows the room and the items side by side.

How you earn coins:

• 1 coin for each day you go out in the ministry since you adopted your pet. A day counts when you log time (marking that you shared in the ministry counts, even with 0 minutes) or log a visit (a conversation, return visit, or not-at-home). A day earns once, however many records you add.

• 1 more for each planned day you keep: a day you made a plan for and then logged time on, even less than you planned.

• 10 for each milestone your streak reaches, like 3, 5, or 10, while Show streak is on in Settings → Preferences → Streaks & Badges. With streaks hidden, milestones earn nothing, and the rest earns the same. A streak that ends and starts again earns its milestones again.

• If you report by marking that you shared in the ministry, as Kingdom Publishers do, a month in which you share earns at least 8 coins, however few days you log in it.

• Plans alone don't count, because a plan is what you intend, not what you did. Time carried over by Automatic time rollover isn't a day out either, and neither are visits that came with a contact someone shared with you.

• Coins count from the day you adopted your pet. If you adopted it before updating to 1.46.0, the days you've gone out since then already count.

What things cost:

• Hats and room items cost from 10 to 36 coins each. The rarest of each kind cost the most, like the Clay tile floor and the Top hat.

• Items that are open from the start are free. The Window and Sign choices are free too, and you pick them in the pet's details.

• Secret items are never sold. In the Shop, one you haven't found shows only its shadow and ???, with a note that it's found along the way (see the question about secret items).

• Prices can change in a later update. You never pay again for something you own.

Seeing what you earned: when you save time or a visit that earns coins, each part of it lands on the screen, like +1 Time added and then +1 Planned day kept, and the total drops into your pet's coins beside the message that confirms the save and counts up. When the save takes your streak to a milestone, its +10 lands in the streak celebration. Tap anywhere to skip it. What you earn on another device, or while you're away from Home, plays over your pet's card on Home once you scroll to it, and the hearts fill or fade one at a time.

To turn the animation off, or change or turn off its sounds, go to Settings → Preferences → Rewards (it's there once you have a pet), or tap the settings button at the top right of your pet's details. Tap a sound set to hear it, or Play a sample to see the whole animation. With the animation off, the message that confirms a save shows what it earned, like +2 beside a coin. The sounds also stay quiet while Play sounds is off in Settings → Preferences → Audio & Haptics. With Reduce Motion, VoiceOver, or TalkBack on, the amounts change without the animation.

What you keep: once you buy an item, it's yours for good, also after you tap Change pet. Items you already had before the Shop, because they opened up under the old streak rules, stay yours. An item you own but haven't picked yet on this device says New in your pet's details until you pick it.

Where it's stored: your coins aren't stored. Like hearts, each device works them out from your records and subtracts what you've bought, so devices that sync show the same amount, and they come back after you restore a backup. What's saved with your pet is which items you bought and what each cost; they sync and back up with your pet (see the question about syncing). If two devices buy different items while offline at the same time and together spend more than you had, you keep everything you bought, and your coins show 0 until new earnings catch up. If you edit or delete old records, or turn Show streak off, your coins are worked out again from what's left, and your bought items stay yours.

Coins can't be bought with money, and being a Supporter doesn't give you any.

If your coins didn't go up, check that you logged time or a visit (not only a plan) on a day after you adopted your pet, that you hadn't already gone out that day, and that your devices have finished syncing.
