What happens to setup choices, deleted contacts, and reminders during sync?

Restart onboarding affects only this device. Choosing Set up fresh pauses iCloud sync until you explicitly enable it in Settings; then choose Merge both or Restore from iCloud as appropriate. Restore from iCloud reads other devices’ snapshots and replaces local data after confirmation. During onboarding, a device that already has records asks before replacing them, and Supporters can choose Merge instead. Keep this device’s data makes your other devices switch to this device’s data the next time they sync, replacing changes made on them before then. Restoring data does not send Buddies declines for plans absent from the backup. Recoverable deleted contact details are retained for up to 90 days, then removed while deletion evidence remains. Reminders are rebuilt on this device after merges and restores, keeping the reminder time chosen for each follow-up and plan; notification permission is required and only future reminders are scheduled.
